Delhi Blast Probe: 9mm cartridges found near Red Fort, no weapon recovered

In a major development in the Delhi car blast case, three cartridges from the explosion site have been confirmed by Delhi police sources. Out of the three cartridges, two were live and one was empty. Sources said it was of 9mm calibre, a firearm type limited to armed forces and restricted from public possession.

"These cartridges are usually only possessed by the armed forces or those with special permission," police said.

According to reports, no pistol or any of its parts were found, indicating that the weapon used in the firing remains missing. 

An investigation is currently underway to determine how the cartridges came to the spot. However, this adds a new depth to the ongoing probe, as officials are finding the source of the munitions and their suspected link to any terror or criminal network. Securities agencies have also examined CCTV footage and collected evidence from the spot.

Red Fort car blast

The Red Fort car blast in Delhi killed 12 people and injured several others on November 10. Following the incident, the security near the Red Fort and the surrounding area was heightened.

Delhi Police have arrested three doctors linked to past terror cases in the Red Fort blast probe. Investigators say eight suspects planned coordinated IED attacks in four cities. The bomber was identified as Dr Umar Un Nabi through DNA. Al-Falah University denied involvement. The case is now with the NIA. A separate blast at Nowgam Police Station killed nine personnel.
