In a major anti-corruption operation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer posted as DIG, Ropar Range, Punjab, along with a private individual, in connection with an Rs 8 lakh bribery case. The officer, a 2009-batch IPS, was also allegedly demanding monthly illegal payments from the complainant.
FIR ‘Settlement’ at a Price
The case was registered on October 16, 2025, after allegations surfaced that the DIG had demanded Rs 8 lakh through a middleman for “settling” an FIR registered against a businessman. The officer was also accused of threatening adverse police action unless monthly illegal payments were made.

Caught in the Act

During the trap, a controlled call was made to the DIG, who confirmed the bribe arrangement. Both the DIG and the middleman were arrested the same day.
Staggering Seizures in Follow-Up Raids
Searches at properties linked to the DIG in Punjab and Chandigarh revealed:
Rs 5 crore in cash (and counting)
1.5 kg of gold jewellery
Documents related to immovable properties
Luxury cars (Mercedes, Audi), 22 watches
Firearms, including a double-barrel gun, and imported liquor
Another Rs 21 lakh was recovered from the middleman.
Investigation Underway
The accused are set to appear before the designated court today. The CBI confirmed that searches and investigations are ongoing, with more revelations expected.
