Along with Panda, Sunil Kumar Sharma, MLA and Leader of the Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, has been appointed as Election Co-Incharge, while former Union Minister Darshana Ben Jardosh has also been named Election Co-Incharge for Assam.

The party said the appointments are part of its organisational preparations ahead of the Assembly polls in Assam, which are expected to be held by April 2026.

Baijayant Panda Secured Winning Mandates

Baijayant (Jay) Panda had earlier served as the BJP’s election in-charge for Assam during the 2021 Assembly elections, when the party secured a winning mandate in the state. His reappointment is continuity in the party’s election management strategy for Assam.

Panda is currently holding the post of BJP National Vice-President and is a Member of Parliament (MP) from Kendrapara. Party sources indicated that his previous experience in steering the Assam campaign was a key factor behind the decision.

In recent months, Jay Panda was also involved in election-related activities in Odisha. In November, he campaigned for the BJP during the Nuapada by-election, where the party's candidate Jay Dholakia won with a massive margin. The result was viewed within the party as a positive outcome ahead of future electoral contests.

Following Goyal, Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal and Minister of State for Civil Aviation of India Murlidhar Mohol have been appointed as co-in-charges for the Tamil Nadu election.
