Russian President Vladimir Putin received a grand welcome as he landed in India for a two-day visit, with President Droupadi Murmu hosting a lavish feast of a purely vegetarian menu for him in Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday.
The dinner showcased the rich culinary delicacy of India, presented on a traditional 'thali.'
What was on Putin’s plate?
The curated menu includes Murungai Chaaru, a South Indian rasam (soup), followed by appetisers such as Gucchi Doon Chetin (stuffed morels with Kashmiri walnut chutney), Kaale Chane Ke Shikampuri (pan-grilled black gram kebabs), and Vegetable Jhol Momo with spicy chutney, showcasing the culinary traditions from different parts of India.
The main course featured Zafrani Paneer Roll, Paalak Methi Mattar Ka Saag, Tandoori Bharwan Aloo, Achaari Baingan, and Yellow Dal Tadka, served alongside Dry Fruit and Saffron Pulao and a selection of Indian breads, including Laccha Parantha, Magaz Naan, Satanaj Roti, Missi Roti, and Biscuity Roti.
For dessert, the menu offered Badam Ka Halwa, Kesar-Pista Kulfi, and fresh fruits, complemented by traditional treats such as Gur Sandesh, Murakku, and a range of pickles and salads. President Putin was also served a healthy assortment of beverages, including pomegranate, orange, carrot, and ginger juices.
Beyond the food, the dinner showcased a blend of Indian classical music and Russian melodies. The performances included Indian raagas such as Amritavarshini, Khamaj, Yaman, Shivranjini, Nalinakanthi, Bhairavi, and Desh, along with Russian pieces like Kalinka, excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite, and the popular Hindi film tune ‘Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani’.
President Putin departed India after the dinner, with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar seeing him off at the airport.
