In an unfortunate turn of events, ten army personnel were killed and seven others injured after a bulletproof Army vehicle plunged into a nearly 200-foot-deep gorge in the Bhaderwah area of Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir. The tragic accident occurred on Thursday as the vehicle was moving towards a high-altitude post, officials said.
According to officials, the Army vehicle was carrying a total of 17 personnel when the driver reportedly lost control on the mountainous road. The vehicle skidded off the route and fell into a deep gorge near the Khani Top area of Bhaderwah, leading to heavy casualties among those onboard.
Rescue and Medical Response
Soon after the incident, the Army launched a swift search and rescue operation in the difficult terrain. Injured personnel were provided immediate first aid at the site before being evacuated. They were later airlifted to Udhampur for specialised medical treatment, officials confirmed, as rescue efforts continued at the accident spot.
Recent Similar Incidents
The accident comes only days after two Army porters and a jawan lost their lives in a similar tragedy in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district. The porters were en route to Anita Post in the Gulmarg sector when they slipped into a deep gorge on January 8. Their bodies were recovered the following day after sustained rescue efforts.
The latest incident once again highlights the extreme risks faced by Army personnel while operating in high-altitude and remote areas of Jammu and Kashmir. Rescue teams remain deployed, reflecting the Army’s resolve there.
