Bhubaneswar: Not all heroes wear capes. This adage again proved right when a Railway personnel risked his own life to save a child from being run over by a speeding train at a station on the outskirts of Mumbai.

The hair-raising rescue has been captured in CCTV camera and after it went viral, the railway official has been receiving accolades from all and sundry across the nation for his daredevilry.

As per reports, the railway pointsman, Mayur Shelkhe at Mumbai division saved the boy’s life after the latter lost balance while walking on the edge of platform number 2 of Vangani railway station on April 17.

In the video shared by the Central Railway, the child can be seen walking with a woman, presumed to be his mother. Suddenly, the kid lost his balance and fell on the railway tracks from the high edges of the platform.

Though the woman is seen desperately calling out the child to get up and climb the platform wall, the hapless child could not help himself. The panic-stricken woman could not dare climb down or pull up the child as the train was fast approaching the platform.

Meanwhile, Shelkhe emerged from nowhere and sprinted in full steam towards the child and pulled him away from the tracks in the nick of time and threw him on the platform. In reflex motion, he too climbed up as the train ran past behind him.

As soon as the Central Railway uploaded the video, netizens have lauded the bravery of the Railway pointsman.

Moreover, the Ministry of Railways have also saluted the exemplary courage and utmost devotion to the duty by the pointsman.

“A Good Samaritan: At Vangani station of Central Railway, Pointsman Mr. Mayur Shelkhe saved the life of a child just in the nick of the time. He risked his life to save the life of the child,” tweeted the railways.

Railway Minister, Piyush Goyal wrote, “Very proud of Mayur Shelke, Railwayman from the Vangani Railway Station in Mumbai who has done an exceptionally courageous act, risked his own life & saved a child’s life.”
