Nation Bids Adieu To Sushma Swaraj (1952-2019)
New Delhi: The nation today bid farewell to one of its most distinguished political leaders Sushma Swaraj after she passed away at the AIIMS, New Delhi yesterday.
Hundreds of distinguished personalities and leaders cutting across party lines, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Amit Shah and veteran party leader L K Advani bade farewell and paid tributes to the veteran leader.
Swaraj (67), who also served as the Leader of Opposition and the first woman chief minister of Delhi, was given full state honours in presence of all the dignitaries. Her mortal remains were later consigned to flames at Lodhi Road crematorium.
The former External Affairs Minister and veteran BJP leader died following a cardiac arrest after she was brought to AIIMS in a critical condition, hospital sources said.
Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Prakash Javadekar and BJP Working President J.P. Nadda arrived at the hospital as they got the news.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the death of Sushma Swaraj, who was External Affairs Minister in his first government, lauding her services in helping Indians abroad.

“An excellent administrator, Sushma Ji set high standards in every Ministry she handled. She played a key role in bettering India’s ties with various nations. As a Minister we also saw her compassionate side, helping fellow Indians who were in distress in any part of the world.
“A glorious chapter in Indian politics comes to an end. India grieves the demise of a remarkable leader who devoted her life to public service and bettering lives of the poor. Sushma Swaraj Ji was one of her kind, who was a source of inspiration for crores of people,” he said in a series of tweets.
Defence minister Rajnath Singh expressed his grief and tweeted:

She was a seasoned Parliamentarian and widely respected cutting across the party lines. Her demise is a monumental loss for us.

Meanwhile, BJP Working President Jagat Prakash Nadd informed that Sushma Swaraj’s mortal remains will be kept at her residence for people to pay last respects and at around 12 PM toay, her mortal remains will be brought to BJP Head Quarters. At 3 PM, she will be taken to Lodhi road crematorium, where her last rites will be performed with full state honours
