The HRD ministry announced the decision today only after having a discussion with the Social Justice and Law ministries along with the OBC Commission, said sources.
Though SC/ST students enjoy reservation here which is given in proportion to their population in a specific district, earlier, there was no provision for reservation for OBC students.
There are 1,228 Kendriya Vidyalayas while about 600 Navodaya Vidyalayas in India.
