Kovind condemns violence, appeals for peace

New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday condemned the violence that erupted in Haryana, Punjab and Delhi after Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim was convicted in a rape case, and appealed for peace.

"Violence and damage to public property after court verdict is highly condemnable; appeal to all citizens to maintain peace," the President tweeted.

His remarks came after 30 people were killed in violence in Haryana after a CBI court in Panchkula convicted Baba Ram Rahim in a rape case.

Private and government property was vandalised in Haryana, Punjab and Delhi by Dera supporters.
