Srinagar: One terrorist was shot dead in an encounter with the security forces in Kreeri area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Thursday.

The gunfight between the terrorists and security forces started on Thursday morning Wanigam Payeen after the latter cordoned off the area and launched a search operation following specific inputs about the presence of ultras.

As the security forces zeroed in on the spot where the terrorists were hiding, they came under heavy fire that triggered the encounter.

"One unidentified terrorist has been killed in Baramulla. The operation is going on," police said.

Security Forces Bust Al-Badr Terror Module In Kashmir, 4 Associates Held

Earlier today, security forces busted a terror module of proscribed Al-Badr on Thursday by arresting four alleged associates of terrorists in Tral in south Kashmir's Pulwama district and seized an assault rifle and some ammunition.

Police said that J&K Police along with Army and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search operation on December 23-24 night after a specific information about the presence of terrorists in Dadsara and Larmoh villages in Awantipora.

Four associates of Al-Badr terrorists were arrested, later identified as Yawar Aziz Dar and Sajad Ahmad Parray of Larmoh and Abid Majeed Sheikh and Showkat Ahmad Dar of Dadsara.

Police said the arrested accused led the security forces to a secret place where they had concealed arms and ammunition. "One AK-56 assault rifle, one AK-56 magazine, 28 AK-56 rounds and one hand grenade were seized on the basis of information given by them," police said.

Second Militant Shot Dead In Kashmir Encounter

Later in the day, another militant was shot dead in the ongoing encounter with security forces in Baramulla district on Thursday.

Security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in Wanigam Payeen in the Kreeri area of Baramulla district in north Kashmir Thursday morning following information about the presence of militants there, a police official said.

He said the search operation turned into an encounter after the militants fired upon the forces, drawing retaliation.
