New Delhi: Vice Admiral Karambir Singh has been appointed as the next Navy Chief, a defence ministry official said Saturday. Singh will succeed Admiral Sunil Lanba who retires on May 31.

"The government of India appoints Vice Admiral Karambir Singh, Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) as the next Chief of the Naval Staff. To assume charge on superannuation of Admiral Sunil Lanba on May 31," an Indian Navy spokesman tweeted.

At present, Vice Admiral Singh is serving as the Flag Officer Commanding in Chief of the Eastern Naval Command in Visakhapatnam.
