IRCTC Alert: Online Ticket Prices To Cost More?

Bhubaneswar: In what could turn out to be a dampener for train passengers during upcoming festive season in the country, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is mulling to reimpose service charge on online ticket bookings from September 1. The government-run company had removed the service charge in 2016 after demonetisation to give a push to digital transactions, official sources said.

IRCTC has taken such decision to reintroduce service charge on online tickets as it plans to come out with the initial public offering (IPO) of its tourism and catering arm.

As per a report of the Business Standard, IRCTC is planning to charge convenience fee of Rs 15 and Rs 30 on the online railway tickets for non-AC classes and AC classes, respectively from September 1.

For payment made through UPI/BHIM applications, the convenience fee will be Rs 10 and Rs 20 for non-AC classes and AC classes, respectively, the report added.
