Bhubaneswar: In a bid to ensure safety of passengers, Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Indian Railways has launched a special drive, ‘Operation Number Plate’ ahead of the Independence Day.

Official sources said the special drive aims at identifying vehicles parked in the premises of Indian Railways and at several ‘No Parking’ zones for beyond the stipulated time or longer duration.

The special drive which has been code named, ‘Operation Number Plate’ was carried out at over 400 railway stations across the country as ‘unidentified vehicles’ pose threats to passengers and others.

As many as 3943 vehicles were found parked unattended/unclaimed for more than five days in the authorized parking lots at several Railway stations.

Besides, the credential 894 suspected vehicles is being verified while 2034 vehicles were found parked in ‘No Parking’ zones for more than a day.
