Bhubaneswar: Following the reports of stone pelting on trains, the Railway has braced up to make people aware, especially children and youth living near railway tracks who sometimes indulge in stone pelting on the trains, of its consequences.

In a release by the national transporter, sometimes people indulge in stone pelting on trains as a game or just for fun thereby endangering lives of so many  passengers. “Railway Protection Force of ECoR has identified the places in its jurisdiction from where  Stone pelting cases are being reported,” the release read.

Sometimes passengers who face such incidents also disclose details of incidents of  throwing stones on passing trains. RPF strives to stop stone pelting on passing trains by deploying Security personnel for track patrolling with special teams in plain clothes, said ECoR.

Apart from this, parents of the nearby areas are also being counselled regarding keeping their kids away from Railway Tracks. A month long awareness drive is also on by  RPF personnel to aware the general public, especially those residing near railway tracks through Nukkad Natak, Distribution of Brochures, pamphlets etc, it said.

RPF is also reportedly distributing chocolates to the kids to sensitise them about the danger of stone pelting on running trains and that this could injure their own family members or relatives.

Incidents of stone pelting can result in severe injuries. Many passengers have reported very severe injuries. Besides, glasses of AC coaches have also reportedly got damaged on several occasions.

"Not only national property but also lives are at stake. We will deal with this menace firmly and with sustained efforts," ECoR added.
