Bhubaneswar: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has amended the Central MV Rules 1989 along with cover sections 4-28, 76 and 77 (part) of the MV (amendment) Act 2019.

As per an official notification, electronic forms and documents can now be used for making medical certificate, Learners License (LL), surrender of Driver's Licence (DL) and Renewal of DL and others.

The complete process of grant of Learner's licence has been made online, from application to printing of learner's licence. The grace period for renewal of DL may be availed one year prior to expiry, till one year after expiry.

The National Register of DL and RC (Certificate of Registration) has come into effect, subsuming state registers of DL and RC. This will help in updating and accessing the data on real time basis anywhere in the country.

Apart from this, the complete process of alteration and retrofitment has been brought under the legal framework. This will ensure fixing of liability on both the owner and workshops or authorised agencies performing alteration or retrofitment.

“This will ensure safety of the vehicle and compliance with provisions of the Act. Also, insurance is possible in case of altered vehicles,” tweeted MORTHINDIA.

The time limit for temporary registration has also been extended from 1 month to 6 months with extension of 30 days (Body building etc). This will facilitate owners who purchase the chassis for body building. As per the amendment, trade certificate is now possible in electronic form.
