Dharamsala: Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama will celebrate his 82nd birthday next month with the people of Leh in Jammu and Kashmir, an aide said on Tuesday.

"His Holiness will hold long-life offering ceremony in Leh on his birthday on July 6. He will also deliver teachings that day," an official at the Dalai Lama's office told IANS. The Dalai Lama will stay there till July 30.

He said the spiritual leader will participate in religious ceremonies and deliver teachings at Diskit Monastery in the Nubra Valley, Padum in Zanskar area and the Shewatsel Teaching Ground in Leh.

Over 10,000 followers of the Dalai Lama from India and aboard are likely to attend his teachings, the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) said.

The Dalai Lama's sermons on ethics, non-violence, peace and religious harmony have made him one of the 20th century's most revered spiritual leaders.

The Dalai Lama has lived in self-imposed exile in India since fleeing Tibet in 1959.
