The Union Cabinet today approved an ordinance amending the salary, allowances and pension of Members of Parliament Act, 1954 thereby reducing allowances and pension by 30 per cent starting April 1, 2020 for a year.

The Cabinet also approved suspension of MPLADS for two years following which the Rs 10 crore from each MPLAD fund will go to the consolidated fund of India to help the nation fight Coronavirus pandemic.

The temporary suspension of MPLADS during 2020-21 and 2021-22 was done to deal with the adverse impact of Coronavirus outbreak in the country, said Union Minister Prakash Javadekar.
