Maharashtra: BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday took oath as Chief Minister of Maharashtra while NCP's Ajit Pawar took oath as Deputy CM.

The oath was administered to the duo by Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari at a function in Raj Bhavan held around 8 AM in the presence of a few BJP and NCP leaders, and other government officials.

Soon afterwards, Fadnavis said that the Governor would give them a letter instructing when to prove the new government's majority on the floor of the Assembly. He added that the cabinet would be expanded at a later date.

Soon after the two took the oath, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to twitter to congratulate Fadnavis and Pawar.

BJP President Amit Shah also took to Twitter  to congratulate Fadnavis and Pawar on formation of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in Maharashtra.

"Hearty congratulations to Shri @Dev_Fadnavis ji on taking oath as Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Shri @AjitPawarSpeaks as Deputy Chief Minister of the state," tweeted Shah.

He added, "I am confident that this government will be continuously committed to the development and welfare of Maharashtra and will set new standards of progress in the state."


In early morning development Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) came together and met the Maharashtra Governor and staked claim for forming the government.
