Ayodhya: Bringing centuries of wait to an end, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday laid the foundation stone of the historic Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. The PM performed the rituals amidst chorus of Vedic chants in presence of invited dignitaries, seers including 175 religious leaders from all over India.

The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind congratulated all on the ground-breaking for Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. Calls it a testimony to ideals of Ram Rajya and a symbol of modern India.

He arrived in Ayodhya and first offered his prayers at the 10th century Hanuman Garhi temple. There he performed the 'aarti' of Lord Hanuman and made a 'parikrama' of the holy shrine.

He spent around 10 minutes at the Hanuman Garhi temple. The entire temple premises were sanitised before the Prime Minister's arrival.

Prime Minister Modi offered prayers to Ram Lalla Virajman and performed 'sashtang pranam' (prostration) at Ram Janmabhoomi site. He was accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath as per the protocol.

The PM also planted sapling of Parijaat Tree which finds mention in Hindu mythology as a divine tree.

As per reports, soil from more than 2000 pilgrimage sites & water from more than 100 rivers were brought to the Bhoomi Pujan site including nine bricks sent by devotees of Lord Ram from around the world in 1989. There are 2 lakh 75 thousand such bricks for the temple.
