Guwahati: The new in-charge (Prabhari) of Bharatiya Janata Party’s Assam unit, Baijayant Panda was accorded a hearty welcome by party leaders and workers soon after his arrival at Lokpriya Gopinath Borodoloi International Airport in Guwahati on Wednesday. He was accompanied by the deputy in-charge Pawan Sharma.

Both the leaders were greeted by BJP Assam President Ranjit Das and over hundred senior party leaders and workers of the State on their arrival at the airport.

Panda is scheduled to take part in a slew of party programmes in the State. This is his maiden State-tour to Assam after his appointment as the Assam in-charge of the party.

“I have come as the BJP in-charge. I will attend several party programmes,” Panda told local media.

Panda, who is the national vice-president of BJP, is slated to hold discussions with State leaders and workers regarding the organisational affairs.

He will address party workers and leaders at state BJP headquarters on Wednesday and also attend a meeting at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra, local media reported.

On Thursday, Panda will visit the Kamakhya Devi temple in Guwahati. Later, he will attend the Krishak Samaroh at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in the presence of Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convenor Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, reports said.

Panda has been appointed as party in-charge of Delhi and Assam after successfully steering the party to emphatic victory during the recently-concluded Manipur by-elections.
