New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: While the minimum pay hike demand of the Central government employees still awaits the Narendra Modi government's consideration, the Centre today made a big announcement for the Railway employees ahead of Dussehra.

Addressing a press conference Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said the government has been consistently giving record bonus, equivalent to the wage of 78 days for the last six years to almost 11 lakh railway employees. This year also, 11,52,000 employees will get 78 days wage as bonus.

This will be the sixth straight year in which the railway staff will get a Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB), informed Javadekar.

It is worth mentioning that for the financial year 2017-18, the Centre had approved the payment of such 78 days wage bonus for all eligible non-gazetted railway employees, which excluded RPF/RPSF personnel; and it had put an estimated burden of Rs 20,44.31 crore on the government exchequer.

The Central government employees have been demanding a hike in their present basic pay, Rs 18,000. They are presently getting Rs 18,000, but demanding an increase of Rs 8000 (Rs 26,000) citing that the present pay has failed to put any impact on their financial condition.
