    Hemant Soren-led alliance all set to retain Jharkhand; BJP emerges as second largest party

    The Hemant Soren-led JMM alliance is set to retain power in Jharkhand, leading in 50 of the 81 assembly seats, according to the Election Commission. The BJP-led NDA, after an aggressive campaign focusing on "infiltrators" in Santha Parganas, trailed with leads in 29 seats, overshadowed by the JMM’s effective 'Adivasi' card and sympathy for Soren following his arrest. The JMM led in 31 seats, Congress in 14, RJD in four, and CPI(ML) in one, while BJP led in 26, with smaller parties sharing the rest. Key contests saw Hemant Soren leading in Barhait, while his wife Kalpana Soren trailed in Gandey. State BJP chief Babulal Marandi led in Dhanwar, while Congress's Banna Gupta and AJSU chief Sudesh Mahto were trailing. The voter turnout was a record 67.74%, with elections held in two phases on November 13 and 20.

    Jharkhand: After see-saw battle, INDIA bloc takes big lead against NDA in early trends

    In the hotly contested Jharkhand Assembly elections, early trends indicate that the people of the state have shown confidence in the incumbent Hemant Soren-led government, as the JMM-led INDIA alliance takes a decisive lead over the BJP-led NDA. As of 10:30 AM, the JMM-Congress-RJD combine has reached the 50-seat mark, while the NDA is trailing at 29 seats in the 81-member Assembly. Initially, the NDA was ahead when counting began, but the race soon turned into a see-saw battle, with the INDIA bloc pulling ahead and ultimately gaining the upper hand. Election Commission data reflects a similar trend, with the INDIA alliance leading in over 45 seats, while the BJP is trailing with leads in around 28-30 seats. The elections, held in two phases on November 13 and 20, saw a record voter turnout of 67.74%, the highest since the state’s formation in 2000.

    EC data: INDIA bloc takes edge in early leads in J'khand; JMM+ leading on 35 seats, NDA on 22

    Counting of votes for 81 Assembly seats in Jharkhand began on Saturday at 8 a.m. According to the Election Commission data till 10 a.m., the JMM-led INDIA bloc is leading on more than 35 seats while BJP-led NDA is seen taking the lead on 22 seats.

    As per the EC data at 10 a.m., JMM is leading on 20 seats, Congress on 10, RJD on 5 seats while BJP is ahead on 21 seats and AJSUP on 1 seat.

     Jharkhand BJP chief Babulal Marandi was leading by1,840 votes over CPIML's Rajkumar Yadav in Dhanwar assembly seat after the first round of counting of votes, according to the Election Commission of India.

    Marandi won the Dhanwar seat in the 2019 assembly polls as a Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) candidate by defeating BJP's Lakshman Prasad Singh by a margin of 17,550 votes. Later, he joined the BJP.

    JMM, Congress, RJD and CPI (ML) Liberation are jointly contesting Jharkhand polls under the INDI Alliance.

    The BJP was leading in 39 of the 81 assembly seats in Jharkhand while the JMM was ahead in 38 as the counting of votes was underway on Saturday, according to reports of TV channels.

    The counting of votes began at 8 AM. The Election Commission, however, came out with trends showing that the INDIA Bloc leading in four seats, the BJP and an independent in one each till 9.26 AM.

    The results will decide the electoral fate of a total of 1,211 candidates, including Chief Minister Hemant Soren who contested from Barhait, his wife Kalpana from Gandey, former CM and BJP state president Babulal Marandi from Dhanwar and ex-CM Champai Soren from Seraikela.
