Counting of votes for the by-election to Dhamnagar Assembly constituency is under process. The counting will take place on 14 tables in as many as 18 rounds. The bypoll result is expected to be declared by 2 pm.
As the bypoll witnessed a strong contest from among the candidates in the fray, even political pundits are finding it difficult to predict who will win the bypoll. The bypoll for Dhamnagar Assembly seat was necessitated due to untimely demise of sitting BJP MLA Bishnu Charan Sethi.

I have always respected the verdict of the people. The BJP MLA (Bishnu Sethi) had died recently, he was quite popular. His son was given the ticket. So we expected that they would win this byelection, said Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Dhamnagar Bypoll results.
BJP has retained the Dhamnagar Assembly seat. Party's candidate Suryavanshi Suraj has won the election by defying BJD's Abanti Das by 9881 votes.
BJP candidate Suryavanshi Suraj leads by 8902 votes, has secured 80090 votes after 19th round of counting.
BJP candidate Suryavanshi Suraj extends lead to 8825 votes after 17th round of counting in the by-election to Dhamnagar Assembly constituency.
The BJP continues to dominate in the bypoll to the Dhamnagar Assembly seat as the party is now leading by 6214 votes after the 12th round of counting.
BJP candidate Suryavanshi Suraj is now leading by 5310 votes after 11th round of counting. Seven more rounds of counting are left.
BJP is now leading by 5200 votes after the completion of the 7th round of counting. If the present trend continues, BJP may manage to retain the seat.
BJP candidate Suryabanshi Suraj is now leading on the Dhamnagar Assembly constituency seat by 4392 votes.
After the end of the 5th round of voting, BJP has strengthened its lead. The saffron party candidate is now leading by 3600 votes, as per the ECI data.
BJP candidate Suryabanshi Suraj is leading on Dhamnagar Assembly seat by 3261 votes from his nearest BJD candidate Abanti Das (14920 votes).
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s candidate Suryavanshi Suraj, son of former sitting MLA Bishnu Charan Sethi whose demise necessitated the bypoll, said, “The results of only the initial round have emerged. It is too early to say anything about the final outcome. But I hope the wish of Dhamnagar people should fulfill.”
“There were five candidates in the fray and the election was fought by the people of Dhamnagar. I believe Dhamnagar people have cast their votes for a capable candidate. Since we had been fighting the election on the development issues, we will continue our work for the development of Dhamnagar irrespective of poll results,” he said.
After the completion of the second round of voting for the Dhamnagar bypoll, BJP is leading with 1379 votes.

As per the initial trends, BJP candidate Suryabanshi Suraj is leading on the Dhamnagar Assembly seat with 779 votes.
Out of the five candidates, who contested for the bypoll, the contest between BJD’s Abanti Sahu, BJP’s Suryabanshi Suraj and independent candidate Rajendra Das is said to be neck to neck. Besides, Congress has vouched to better its 2019 tally.
A total of 10 platoons of armed police force along with a platoon of CRPF jawans have been deployed to ensure smooth conduct of the entire counting process.
The voting for the byelection to the Dhamnagar Assembly constituency in Bhadrak district was held on Thursday. The polling had taken place in 252 booths, of which 110 were sensitive. Over 2.38 lakh voters have sealed the fate of five candidates in the fray. The fate of the five candidates contested for the bypoll is expected to be declared today by 2 pm.
The fate of the candidates sealed in the EVM machines will be revealed tomorrow as the counting is all set to start from 8 am on Sunday. Read More..
