The BJP is poised to form a government in Delhi after more than 26 years, with the latest Election Commission trends showing the saffron party ahead in 48 of the 70 assembly seats and AAP in 22.
As of 2: 30 pm, the BJP and AAP have won 11 and 10 seats respectively, according to the Election Commission (EC) website.
Former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia has conceded defeat to the BJP's Tarvinder Singh Marwah in Jangpura while the saffron party's Parvesh Verma claimed to have defeated AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal in the high-profile New Delhi seat.
Hailing the BJP's Delhi Assembly polls victory as "historic", Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the people of the national capital have shown the door to 'AAP-da' and now a double-engine government will ensure development at a double speed.
He said Delhiites are celebrating BJP's victory and respite from 'AAP-da', a term he used throughout the campaign to criticise the Aam Aadmi Party's rule.Read More...

As the BJP is poised to form a government in Delhi, activist Anna Hazare on Saturday said the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP "drowned" due to the liquor policy and its focus on money, failing to understand its duty to serve people selflessly.
"With the liquor policy issue came the money and they drowned in it. The (AAP's) image was tarnished. People saw he (Arvind Kejriwal) talks about clean character and then about liquor," Hazare, who led the anti-corruption movement in 2011, told reporters.

As in previous elections, the counting process starts with postal ballots. For those unfamiliar, a ‘postal ballot’ enables voters who cannot be physically present at polling stations to cast their votes remotely, as per Section 60 of the RPA.
Security beefed up for Delhi Assembly election vote counting with a three-tier arrangement: paramilitary forces and Delhi Police at 19 counting centres. Anti-sabotage checks done, traffic plan in place for smooth operations.
While the exit polls have predicted a landslide victory for the BJP, AAP is likely to fall short of the majority. The Congress party is predicted to get 1-2 seats in the assembly elections.
Polling for the 70-member Delhi Assembly saw a 57.70% turnout till 5 p.m., with AAP aiming for a fourth term and BJP pushing for a comeback. Allegations of bogus voting emerged in Seelampur, where two were detained. Mustafabad recorded the highest turnout (66.68%), while Arvind Kejriwal’s New Delhi seat saw 54.27%. AAP and BJP traded accusations over voter influence, as complaints of slow voting surfaced.
