At least 11 persons were killed in a train mishap that occurred between Alamanda and Kantakapalli stations on the Andhra Pradesh-Odisha border on Sunday. The loco pilot and guard of a train were among those killed in the mishap. Over 50 persons were injured in the mishap, informed East Coast Railway CPRO Biswajit Sahu.
After the restoration of a rail track, train movement resumed on the up-line on the spot of derailment in Vizianagaram of Andhra Pradesh. After a trial run on the restored track, Prasanti Express was allowed to move at 2.36 pm on Monday, according to sources of the East Coast Railway.
Rescue operation has been completed; all those trapped in the bogies have been rescued, says ECoR CPRO.
Railway authorities clarified that 13 people have been killed in the mishap. Earlier, the death toll was pegged at 14 as the severed body parts of a deceased were counted twice. As many as 29 injured passengers are currently under treatment. Of them, 10 are stated to be critical.

Vizianagaram district administration released the list of 13 deceased. Of them, 9 are males, two are females while two bodies are yet to be identified. None of the dead identified so far is from Odisha.
So far 13 people have died, out of which 7 have been already identified and the process to identify bodies is underway, said Vizianagaram SP Deepika.
As many as 26 trains have been cancelled following the collision between two trains on the Andhra Pradesh-Odisha border on Sunday. About 22 trains have been diverted while 11 trains partially cancelled. The ongoing repair work is likely to be completed by today 4 pm, informed ECoR CPRO Biswajit Sahu.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that ex-gratia compensation disbursement started- Rs 10 Lakh in case of death, Rs 2 Lakh towards grievous and Rs 50,000 for minor injuries. He further informed that all injured have been shifted to hospitals.
In order to facilitate stranded passengers, ECoR has arranged free bus service to take passengers up to Srikakulam and Vizianagaram. Food and water were also distributed to the passengers of the affected trains.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has directed SRC, Koraput and Rayagada Collectors to extend immediate help in rescue and relief operations. Expressing deep grief over the death of some passengers in a train accident, the CM wished speedy recovery of the injured passengers.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the PMNRF for the next of kin of each deceased due to the train derailment between Alamanda and Kantakapalle section. The injured would be given Rs 50,000, informed the PMO.
Over 100 passengers have been rescued so far, informed East Coast Railway CPRO Biswajit Sahu. Meanwhile, a rescue train has left from Bhubaneswar.

East Coast Railway CPRO Biswajit Sahu informed that at least two bogies of Palasa passenger and the engine of Rayagada passenger derailed in the mishap. Though the bogies were hit by goods train, there has been no major damage. Around 100-150 passengers may have been in the bogies. Rescue operations are underway, he added.

Andhra Pradesh CM expressed deep shock over the Kantakapalli train accident incident in Vizianagaram district. He ordered the officials to take quick relief measures and ensure that the injured get prompt medical services.
