Bhubaneswar: In an ambitious move, the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) has decided to come up with 50 Solar Charkha Clusters across the country under the Mission Solar Charkha. A budget of Rs 550 crore has been allotted for the project for the year 2018-19 and 2019-20.

The scheme is envisaged to generate direct employment for nearly one lakh persons. Solar Charkha units have been classified as Village Industries.

Official sources said that the scheme implemented by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Mumbai. Moreover, 36 proposals have been shortlisted by KVIC from among the proposals submitted by promoters agencies and they have been asked to submit Detailed Project Reports (DPRs).

Ministry of MSME and KVIC have been making all efforts to make the scheme popular by taking it up with State Governments. The Expression of Interest has been published twice in national newspapers to solicit response from interested parties, informed Union MSME Minister, Nitin Gadkari in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today.
