His remarks came while Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif looked on, and Trump expressed hope that India and Pakistan “are going to live very nicely together.”

Trump’s public acknowledgment of PM Modi, despite his absence, is another instance of the visible bonhomie between the two leaders. In a separate gesture, the US ambassador-designate presented PM Modi with a signed photo bearing Trump’s handwritten message: “Mr Prime Minister, you are great.”

Trump Claims Again...

When earlier announcing the Gaza peace plan, Trump claimed he had “stopped” the India-Pakistan conflict by threatening tariffs of up to 200 percent on both sides, asserting he “had that thing settled” in 24 hours. However, India has rejected any third-party mediation and made clear it handles matters with Pakistan on a bilateral basis.

Meanwhile, PM Modi had called Trump to congratulate him on the “success of the historic Gaza peace plan,” and they agreed to stay in close touch on trade and future talks.

The Indian Prime Minister also expressed support for Trump’s efforts toward peace in the region and appreciated the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas.
