Announcing the decision in a post on Truth Social, Trump said he had signed the order from the Oval Office and described it as a “Global 10% Tariff on all Countries.” According to a White House fact sheet, the new duty will come into force at 12:01 am Eastern Standard Time on February 24 and will remain in place for 150 days.

The move comes hours after the Supreme Court of the United States struck down the administration’s earlier reciprocal tariffs imposed in April. The new measure is being authorised under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974, which allows the President to impose tariffs to address balance of payments concerns.

The White House said key imports such as critical minerals, pharmaceuticals, select electronics, aerospace products, and some agricultural goods will remain exempt.

Officials clarified that countries like India that have signed trade agreements with Washington will see tariff levels temporarily reduced to 10% before revised duties are introduced.
