At least 12 people have been killed and 11 others wounded, including two police officers, in a mass shooting at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australian police confirmed on Sunday. The shooting occurred as hundreds of people gathered for an event titled Chanukah by the Sea, organised to mark the beginning of the Jewish festival of Hanukkah.

Authorities have described the incident as a ‘terrorist’ attack, stating that it was deliberately designed to target Sydney’s Jewish community on the first day of the festival. The attack has sent shockwaves across Australia and drawn widespread condemnation.

Police said one man believed to be among the attackers was shot dead at the scene. A second suspected shooter was critically injured and is currently receiving medical treatment under police guard. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether others were involved and to establish the full sequence of events.

One of the gunmen involved in the deadly mass shooting at Sydney’s Bondi Beach has been identified as 24-year-old Naveed Akram, as investigations continue into one of Australia’s deadliest attacks in recent years.

Cops are conducting a raid at Akram's home in Sydney's Bonnyrigg.

Two police officers were among those injured while responding to the attack. Emergency services rushed to the popular beachfront area, providing medical assistance to the wounded and evacuating civilians amid scenes of chaos and panic.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the incident as “shocking and distressing”, expressing condolences to the families of the victims and solidarity with the Jewish community.
