When you are buying lenses for the first time, you need to be a bit more careful than you usually are while choosing frames for your specs. After all, this time it’s your comfort that is going to decide whether you are going to be happy with the lenses or not. With so many choices for coatings and lenses available you may get confused for the start.

Types Of Lenses/Coatings

Glass lenses were the only options in the earlier days that were used for vision correction. But they are heavy and tend to break very easily and hence may cause harm to the eye. Instead, other types of lenses like plastic lenses, polycarbonate lenses, or high-index plastic lenses are a better option. Made from CR-39 plastic, the plastic lenses are highly popular as they are lightweight, cheap and offer excellent optical qualities.

Polycarbonate lenses introduced in 1970 are safe, even lighter than CR-39 plastic and are considered to be ideal for safety glasses and sports eyewear. High-index plastic lenses are the thinner and lighter lenses that are very much in demand today.

How To Take Care Of Lenses?

Contact lenses offer you freedom from spectacles. But it calls for much more awareness and cares so that your eyes do not suffer from an infection. You should follow the eye care instructions given by the doctor. Here are some more suggestions that can be helpful:

1. Make sure that you wash and rinse your hands and dry them thoroughly before touching the contact lenses.

2. For cleaning always use soap that is free of perfumes, lotions or oils.

3. Also, make sure that the towel you use for drying hands is free from lint.

4. Before inserting the lens into your eye, make sure that it is clean, moist and is not damaged in any way.

5. Always avoid using a damaged lens.
