Mosquitoes are a big nuisance as not only they bite and cause irritation but are also responsible for serious illnesses like Dengue and Malaria. That is why most of us try various methods of keeping the mosquitoes at bay. From mosquito-repelling liquids to ointments and sticks, there are a lot of products that help in repelling mosquitoes. But most of them contain toxic chemicals that also lead to breathing problems in animals and humans.

That is why using a natural repellant that does not cause any harmful side effects is the best way to stay safe and keep the mosquitoes away. Here are a few methods to prepare such repellants at home:

1. Coconut Oil & Peppermint Oil Mixture

Take 12 drops of Peppermint oil and add it to 30 ml of coconut oil. Apply this mixture to the exposed area of your body to keep mosquitoes at bay. Mosquitoes mostly become active after the sunset so apply it during the evening and even in the night at bedtime.

Peppermint oil is a natural bug repellant. When you mix it with coconut oil it becomes an ideal concoction for daily application good both for the skin as well as for repelling the mosquitoes. Peppermint is rich in compounds such as menthol and limonene that are known to keep mosquitoes away. Coconut oil, on the other hand, being rich in emulsifiers and unsaturated fatty acids slow down the process of evaporation of molecules in peppermint oil giving a long-lasting effect.

2. Apple Cider Vinegar And Essential Oils

Take 50 ml of water and 50 ml of apple cider vinegar. Mix them and add 10 to 12 drops of essential oil. You can choose from citronella, clove or eucalyptus oil. Now store this mixture in a bottle with a pump. Use topically whenever you require protection from mosquitoes.
