Holi Special: Try this easy Gujiya recipe to make your celebration sweeter

Gujiya is one of the most popular Holi recipes enjoyed across the country. In some parts of the country, gujiya is also known as karanji. The stuffing for gujiya may include mawa, suji or rawa and dry fruits too.

Ingredient required

  1. 2 cups flour
  2. ½ cup ghee
  3. 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  4. 200 grams Khoya/Mawa
  5. 2 tbsp desiccated coconut
  6. 2tbs suji (dry roast till golden brown)
  7. 2 tbsp raisins
  8. 2 tbsp Chasews
  9. Oil to fry

How to make

  1. Add melted ghee to the flour and rub between your fingers till the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
  2. Add very little water and knead to a stiff dough. Set aside the dough for 10 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile, crumble the khoya and roast it in a pan over low heat till it changes colour.
  4. Lightly roast the desiccated coconut. Add the suji, cashews, raisins, desiccated coconut, elaichi powder and powdered sugar to the khoya and mix well.
  5. Break the dough into lemon-sized balls and roll them out into thin puris.
  6. Then put the filling in the puri. Apply some water on the edges to seal the gujiya and press it properly.
  7. Then fry them in medium heated oil until they get golden in colour.
  8. Remove and cool completely before serving or storing for Holi.
