In the age of link-ups and break-ups, Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D’Souza have been setting couple goals for a decade now. Before tying a knot in 2012 in a grand function that became the talk of the town, the couple dated in secrecy for more than nine years. Yes! Even the paparazzi couldn’t speculate their romance as the two managed to keep it under the wraps to perfection.
In what seems like destiny, their story started in 2002. A nervous 16-year-old Genelia arrived at the Hyderabad airport with her mom to meet 24-year-old Riteish who was the son of Maharastra’s then Chief Minister (the late Vilasrao Deshmukh).
Young Deshmukh was polite and humble to the teen actor when they started shooting their first film, Tujhe Meri Kasam, contrary to her assumption of him being a spoilt brat. Many people don’t know that Riteish is also a professional architect, and he used to discuss architecture with Genelia on the sets. Meanwhile, she used to share updates about her college and exams with him.

While there were no formal proposals, the two eventually fell in love since the release of their first film when they parted ways professionally. Both being from a non-film background, kept their love life away from the limelight. Genelia went on to become one of the biggest female stars in the South and Riteish found his footing in Bollywood but they are the first couple of Bollywood to have never had a single controversy, or link-ups with any other co-star.

Their different religious backgrounds also played a major role in keeping it a secret, as Genelia was a Catholic, Ritiesh’s father would have come under political scrutiny if the affair would have gone public. This would have led them to part ways, so the couple waited to wait and officially tie the knot when they are individual personalities.
The couple managed to keep their love secret for nine years, after which the two were popular figures. Genelia took a break from showbiz when she was at the peak to tie the knot with Ritiesh, which took everyone by surprise. It’s been eight years since the day today, and the two still remain best friends first then man and wife.
