Varun Dhawan knows almost everyone in the film industry since childhood being the son of the successful director David Dhawan. So he also is well aware of the discrimination that is followed in Bollywood when it comes to giving equal footage and payment to female stars. It is a fact that many times the ladies have more roles or are the reasons behind the success of a movie. Even then they are paid far less than the lead male stars.

For example, “Beta” starring Madhuri Dixit and Anil Kapoor became a hit mostly because of the “Dhak Dhak” girl’s performance. Similarly, “Dirty Pictures” was all about Vidya Balan. Even then both these leading female stars were not paid the hefty amount usually a superstar like Akshay Kumar or Salman Khan takes home.

That is why when Varun Dhawan who knows the film industry inside out spoke about this disparity between male and female Bollywood stars it was unexpected but welcome support.

Leading Ladies Should Also Get Equal Importance, Says Varun

A couple of months ago Varun Dhawan made some strong statements during an interview. He asked why journalists or media people never credit female actresses for the success and that only male leads are put on pedestals. The “Hero No.1” actor said that due to this the industry faces a big disadvantage. He believes that if female stars are given their due importance for a movie, it will automatically lessen the burdens on the male stars for which box-office results decide their fate in the industry.

According to Varun, if more stars are considered responsible for the success or failure of a movie, it will automatically bring down the stress on the other stars. With today’s leading actresses like Deepika Padukone, Vidya Balan and Kangana Ranaut attracting audiences on their own, it is high time that Bollywood puts an end to this discrimination and offers equal importance to the leading ladies of the industry.
