Rajamouli’s Breakdown, "I don’t believe in God..."

Apologising to the massive crowd for the technical hiccups, Rajamouli brought up a remark made earlier by his father, writer Vijayendra Prasad, who had assured the audience that Lord Hanuman would bless the event.

Referring to that statement, Rajamouli emotionally shared, “Naku devudu mida pedda nammakam ledu andi. Nannagaru vachi indaka Hanuma…venakala untadu, nadipistadu ani chepparu. Idi aina ventane kopam vachindi. Idena nadipinchedi ani?” (I don’t believe in God. My father mentioned that Hanuman will guide me. I got angry as soon as this (glitches) happened. Is this how He’s helping me?)

The director paused mid-sentence as emotion overwhelmed him. Rajamouli then spoke about his wife, Rama, who is known for her deep devotion to Lord Hanuman.

He added, “My wife has a great devotion to Lord Hanuman. She talks to Him like He’s her friend. I even got angry with her for a while. Let’s see.”

Later, before attempting to play the footage again, he remarked, “Of course, we want to see the trailer once again. I am also waiting for it. Nannagaru, oka sari mee Hanuma kapadedu anukunte, ee sari maa adiva Hanuma kapadedo ledo chuddam.” (Father, if your Hanuman saved me once, let’s see if my wife’s Hanuman does it again.)

Thankfully, the next attempt worked- the Varanasi glimpse finally played without interruptions.

Rajamouli’s Gratitude Post on X

On Sunday, Rajamouli expressed heartfelt thanks to the fans who endured long walks and cold weather.

Taking to X, he wrote, "My sincere thanks to all the Mahesh fans who travelled such long distances for the #Varanasi Globetrotter event and walked close to 3km in the cold… and still, even with the glitches on our side, your patience never wavered… I have to say this, you’re as disciplined as your idol…" (sic)

He added, "And a big thank you to every Telugu Cinema audience who stood by us on ground…" (sic)

Netizens Split: Outrage vs Support

However, netizens reacted sharply. Some users felt deeply hurt by his remarks on Lord Hanuman.

Expressing anguish, one user wrote, "You said you don't believe in Hanuman, blamed Hanuman for some glitch in the event, & now making a movie based on Ramayana. What a low sir @ssrajamouli,....... Shame on you." (sic)

Another wrote, "You should have apology for this one too , for blaming hanuman for your fault" (sic)

"Apologize for your remarks regarding lord hanuman. If everything goes well yeah it's my hardwork, if not blame god. We didn't expect this from you @ssrajamouli" wrote a third user. (sic)

"We didn’t feel for walking 3km. We eere deeply hurt by ur words on hanuman," wrote another. (sic)

Yet, many fans and cinephiles defended Rajamouli, arguing that his frustration came from an emotional place, not disrespect.
