Joe Biden became the 46th President of the US while Kamala Devi  Harris is the first woman vice-president of the country. While the Indian connection of Harris has been discussed a lot many times in the media, interestingly it is Biden's connection with Nagpur that has not received the limelight it deserves.

Very few people know that Joe Biden also has an interesting Indian connection and that his ancestors were from Nagpur, Maharashtra. More importantly, one of the descendants from the Biden family did contact the current US president during the '80s when he was a senator.

Joe Biden Wrote Back To Leslie Biden From Nagpur and Confirmed His Ancestral Linkage

The Bidens are an Anglo-Indian community that is spread across the world. But Joe was not much aware of his Indian connection until Leslie Biden from Nagpur wrote to him during the '80s. It so happened that Leslie saw an article written by Joe titled American Express published in Illustrated Weekly of India.

At that time, the current US president was a member of the US senate. Leslie wrote to him and informed him about their connection and family tree. Joe replied in return and agreed to discuss their ancestral connection and stay in contact in the future. However, soon Leslie died and the communication was stopped.

Nagpur Or Mumbai-Why Did Joe Biden Said His Ancestors Were From Mumbai?

In 2013 when Biden was in Mumbai, India during his speeches he said, "We (Leslie and Joe) have a mutual great, great, great, great ..grandfather. There are five Bidens in Mumbai, India." It made the Biden's from Nagpur wonder what made Joe Biden say Mumbai when Leslie was actually from Nagpur?

But later on, they found out that Leslie had written the letter to Biden when he was in Mumbai (then Bombay) to visit his daughter Evelyn. So the letter carried the stamp of GPO, Bombay although the content inside the letter carried Leslie's Nagpur address. Since the stamp on the envelope was of Bombay, it remained in the mind of Biden that Leslie and other Biden's were from Mumbai.
