Lata Mangeshkar made her debut on All India Radio on 16th December 79 years ago. Recalling her AIR debut, the nightingale of India revealed how her father reacted after hearing her sing very difficult padas from Marathi drama at the very young age of 12 years.

Lataji wrote, "Aaj se 79 saal pehle 16 December 1941 ko maine Radio par pehli baar gaaya.Maine 2 natyageet gaaye the.Jab mere Pitaji ne wo sune tab wo bahut khush hue, unhone meri maa se kaha ki Lata ko aaj radio pe sunke mujhe bahut khushi hui,ab mujhe kisi baat ki chinta nahi."


Lata Mangeshkar aka Didi's father Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar was a very famous classical singer. He was more popular as a Natyageet gayak. He died within a couple of months after Lata Mangeshkar's debut on radio. And from then on it was up to young Lata to carry the baton of music and singing on her shoulders which she has been successfully doing for more than 75 years.

A user said, "पिता को जो खूशी पुत्री के हर छोटे-बड़े कार्यो से मिलती वो दुनिया की किसी भी दौलत से नहीं मिलती और उस पर आपके पिताजी तो सच में जौहरी थे उन्होंने तो पुत्री के साथ - साथ आकाशगंगा के एक नव सितारे को दैदिप्यमान किया। सभी की ओर से हार्दिक आभार एवं प्रणाम."


Indian fans consider her as a replica of Goddess Saraswati. A user thanked God for sending a legend like Lataji on earth. He penned, "आज विश्व को माँ सरस्वती का अंश जब गातीं है तब कैसी लगती है वो पहली बार अनुभूति हुईं. महादेव श्री मंगेश का कोटी कोटी आभार हमें ऐसी रत्न देने के लिए."


Another user said that Indians are proud of the unbeatable legend. He wrote, "79 years ago you started as a fresher but today you have become the unbeatable legend in the world of singing. We Indians indeed are proud to have you, ma'am. Congratulations and wish you a long healthy and prosperous life."


Lata Mangeshkar is one of the most revered singers in India having sung more than 25,000 songs in a career span of more than seven decades.
