Bhubaneswar/Mumbai: Why do real-life heartbreaking tales come to the fore often on reality shows? True, on many occasions the contestants, unable to control their myriad emotions, break down seeing the judges at their dream platform. But on-stage emotional drama, many feel, is SCRIPTED.

During Indian Idol Season 11 auditions, when a guy named Sunny sung Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's 'Afreen Afreen', judges Anu Malik, Vishal Dadlani and Neha Kakkar were left stunned. Sunny's vocal cords not only matched with that of the great Nusrat Sahab, but he did justice to the legend’s song. That marked the emergence of Sunny Hindustani who the judges tagged a ‘phenomenon’.

However, there was more to the story than met the eye. The makers of the show showed a promotional video of Sunny where he was seen polishing shoes of people (the video was also shown in the last episode) to eke out a living while his mother used to sell balloons on the streets of Bathinda. In his life, Sunny had seen many ups and downs but for him, the day he first heard a song of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan at a dargah, he made singing his passion which dragged him to the Indian Idol stage. The fact that he was untrained till then, garnered even more accolades for him.

Anything is possible if your intent is right and you have the resolve to fight till the end. Despite all odds, Sunny Hindustani not only lived his dreams but he eventually went on to lift the coveted trophy of Indian Idol 11.

Was This Story From Rags To Riches Scripted?

On February 23, Sony Television took to Twitter to congratulate Sunny for emerging victorious in the 11th season of the singing reality show. "The #IndianIdol11 title goes to #SunnyHindustani. Congratulations @sunny_singer11," it said.

Though many fans expressed their discontentment citing his lack of versatility, it was Sunny's Twitter handle that grabbed the curious eyeballs. While the 11th season's auditions kicked off almost during the midway of 2019, the Twitter handle of Sunny Hindustani reveals that the account has been created in April 2019, months before the auditions.

Even if there is no conclusive evidence on whether all this was scripted earlier, the Twitter handle created in April 2019 has raised many eyebrows.

Never mind. Sunny has already recorded a number titled 'Rom Rom' for Emraan Hashmi's next 'The Body', and also been roped in to sing in Rajkumar Santoshi's upcoming film. During the Indian Idol journey, Sunny also sang a song for Kangana Ranaut's film 'Panga'. This apart, he got a chance to sing with Shankar Mahadevan, in a song penned by Javed Akhtar. In one of the episodes, Amit Kumar, son of late Bollywood legend Kishore Kumar, was so impressed by Sunny's singing skills that he signed him to lend his voice to the first song of his soon-to-be-unveiled sound studio in Mumbai.
