The wait is finally over for fans as Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 2 dropped on Netflix on December 26. Consisting of three episodes, Volume 2 marks the penultimate stretch of the globally popular supernatural thriller, which began its journey in 2016 and concludes in 2025.
While expectations were sky-high after Volume 1 went viral—especially due to Noah Schnapp’s much-discussed transformation—the latest episodes have left the fandom sharply divided.

Fans React: Disappointment, Betrayal and Emotional Goodbyes
Social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit were flooded with reactions within hours of the release. A significant section of viewers expressed disappointment with the writing and execution. Many longtime fans claimed the final stretch lacked the impact they had hoped for after investing nearly a decade in the series.
One user wrote that Season 5 Volume 2 felt like a betrayal after years of defending the show, while another bluntly stated they had “never been this disappointed” by a series finale. Several fans criticised the pacing and heavy exposition, arguing that the story slowed down when it should have been racing toward a powerful conclusion.
At the same time, another section of the fandom viewed the episodes through an emotional lens. A widely shared post described Volume 2 as a farewell not just to Hawkins, but to childhood itself—calling it a goodbye to the characters, friendships, and memories that shaped an entire generation of viewers.

Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 2 isn’t just a finale — it’s the moment we say goodbye to Hawkins, to our childhood, to the friends we grew up with, to every laugh, every scream, every monster that taught us courage, and realize that some endings don’t let you rewind.” 🖤😭… pic.twitter.com/opjR7kAdFi

Plot Breakdown: The Abyss, Vecna’s Plan, and a Cliffhanger Ending
Season 5 Volume 2 deepens the mythology of the show by revealing that the Upside Down is a wormhole bridge between Hawkins and a new dimension called The Abyss. Vecna plans to merge both worlds to create a new reality, kidnapping twelve children—including Holly Wheeler—to amplify his psychic powers.
Will Byers discovers he can siphon Vecna’s abilities due to their shared connection. Using this power, he helps save Max and Holly. While Max escapes her coma-induced mental prison and wakes up in the real world, Holly remains trapped in The Abyss.
