But when the iconic Ramayan and Mahabharata serials made a comeback on Doordarshan, everyone from young and old got hooked to the stories.

The serials become a big hit just as they were when aired for the first time during the nineties. Interestingly, the rebroadcast of Ramayana on Doordarshan created a record becoming the highest viewed show on television smashing the record of America’s much-loved show Game of Thrones. SS Rajamouli is known for making fantastic and larger than life movies mostly for Telugu cinema. Even before Baahubali, his movies did receive international acclaim and awards. But Baahubali franchise has certainly elevated his name and fame and now people believe that if anyone can make extraordinary films in the country it is SS Rajamouli.

The trio of Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, and Anushka Shetty helmed the star cast of ‘Baahubali’ and proved that given the chance they can make even the larger than life characters come alive on the screen. The characters of Ram, Sita, and Laxman are real and already loved and revered.

So if SS Rajamouli takes up this challenge of directing Ramayan he can think of engaging these three stars for the lead roles. Importantly, ‘Baahubali’ was a fiction staged in the medieval era. All the concepts of Prince and Princess, Kingdom, and rivalry which form an integral part of Ramayan were also present in ‘Baahubali.’ Both Prabhas and Rana played the roles of warriors in ‘Baahubali’ franchise whereas Anushka was a princess forced to lead a despairing life.
