Veteran director Singeetam Srinivasa Rao doesn’t need an introduction. He remains one of Indian cinema’s most versatile and trailblazing filmmakers, whose imaginative storytelling and genre-defying films have shaped the creative contours of South cinema for over five decades. Known for classics like the silent comedy Pushpaka Vimana and the sci-fi cult favourite Aditya 369, his career spans an astonishing body of work across Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Hindi and more.

Now, at 94 years old, the veteran auteur is ready for a grand comeback, donning his director’s hat after a long hiatus with his next venture, tentatively titled #SSR61.
A Career of Boundless Innovation and Influence
Over the decades, Singeetam’s films have ranged from bold experimental narratives to powerful mainstream entertainments. Pushpaka Vimana (1987) is noted as India’s first full-length dialogue-less film, winning acclaim for its inventive concept, while Aditya 369 (1991) stands as a pioneering entry in Indian science-fiction cinema. His diverse filmography also includes mythic fantasy (Bhairava Dweepam), social dramas and animated works, demonstrating a rare breadth of vision that continues to inspire filmmakers today.
