Actress Celina Jaitly continues to grapple with the painful absence of her brother, retired Major Vikrant Jaitley, who has been detained in the United Arab Emirates for over 14 months. Detained reportedly in September last year, his prolonged confinement pushed Celina to share an emotional message on social media on Sunday, declaring, "I will not stop, I will not give up..."

Celina's Emotional Message

On X, Celina wrote, "From the Battlefield to a Cell, The Unspoken Pain of an Indian Soldier, 444 Days Without My Brother! It’s been 1 year, 2 months, 17 days, 443 days in total, 10,632 hours, 637,920 minutes… since my brother, Major Vikrant Kumar Jaitly, was taken." (sic)

In her long post Celina opened up about the toll this ordeal has taken on her family.

Her note concluded with a powerful emotional cry: "BHAI I HAVE LOST EVERYTHING FINDING YOU. I will NOT stop, I will NOT give up till he is back to the soil of his Bharat, the country he gave up all for!! Kalika Mata Ki Jai" (sic)

Taking the Fight to Court

The issue surfaced prominently after Celina approached the Delhi High Court, urging the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to provide her brother with legal assistance and medical care. Celina’s Petition In her plea, she stated that her brother had been “illegally abducted and detained” in the UAE in September 2024.

During the hearing, Centre’s counsel Nidhi Raman informed the court that he had been detained “in connection with a case” and that the Ministry was in touch with his wife. Appearing before Justice Sachin Datta, Celina sought:

  • Legal aid for Major Vikrant
  • Direct and regular communication
  • Steady consular access to ensure his well-being

She also highlighted that despite more than a year of detention, she had received no clear update about his condition or legal status, nor any direct or verified communication from him.

The court issued a notice directing the MEA to:

  • Facilitate communication between Celina and her brother
  • Appoint a nodal officer to oversee the case

Why Was Major Vikrant Detained?

Major Vikrant was reportedly detained over national security concerns, though the reasons remain unclear. His family alleges that he is being held unlawfully, without proper legal support or medical access. Government representatives have said he received consular access, yet the charges, investigation details, and his current state remain undisclosed.

Vikrant had been living in the UAE since 2016, employed with the MATITI Group, which deals in consultancy, trading and risk management. However, the lack of transparency continues to raise concerns around the legitimacy and nature of his detention.

A Ray of Hope After the Hearing

After the court’s direction, Celina- visibly emotional- addressed the media. Calling the order “a ray of hope”, she added, “It’s been a nightmare for me… I’m very grateful for today’s judgment.” The next hearing is scheduled for December 4, when the MEA is expected to submit a detailed status report.
