More than a decade after Shah Rukh Khan's Ra.One stormed theatres with its futuristic ambition, talk of a sequel has resurfaced. Director Anubhav Sinha has reignited excitement by candidly addressing the possibility of revisiting the superhero universe. While the filmmaker is clearly enthusiastic, he also admits that mounting a sequel would demand serious time and dedication.

“I really want to make Ra.One 2…”

In a recent interview with Prabhat Khabar, Sinha opened up about the idea and the practical challenges involved.

Sinha said, “I really want to make Ra.One 2 as well, and Khan saab (SRK) even said in a press conference that he also wants to do it. But making Ra.One 2 will take 2-3 years, which is quite a long commitment. So first, I need a little free time, and then I’ll think about when in my life I would want to dedicate those three years, and whether Khan saab will be available at that time? Then we will discuss it, because Khan saab is also busy doing one film after another.”

His words reflect both passion and pragmatism - the desire is strong, but the scale of the project demands careful timing.

SRK Had Said This Too!

Interestingly, Shah Rukh Khan had expressed similar sentiments during his 60th birthday fan meet last year.

When asked about the sequel, he said, “If Anubhav ever decides to, because he’s the one who made it, and I think only he can make it again, we worked really hard on it. And God willing, if the time ever feels right, we might do it again. I think it’s easier now anyway.”

The mutual respect between actor and director suggests that the idea isn’t far-fetched - it’s simply waiting for the right moment.

From Criticism to Cultural Recall

Released in 2011, Ra.One faced significant criticism and achieved moderate box office success. However, with time, the film has secured a unique space in popular culture. Its visual ambition, technical finesse, and larger-than-life set pieces are often cited as bold attempts in the Indian superhero genre.

Whether Ra.One 2 eventually materialises remains uncertain, but one thing is clear - the spark for a sequel of the SRK-starrer is very much alive.
