Rajpal Yadav surrenders at Tihar Jail after Delhi High Court denies relief

Yadav was taken into custody in compliance with the court’s direction to surrender immediately. The High Court, while hearing his plea earlier in the day, declined to extend the deadline for surrender or recall its previous order, observing that repeated non-compliance could not be overlooked merely because the accused was a public figure.

Multiple Opportunities Given

The court, presided over by Justice Swarana Kanta S Bollharma, noted that the actor had already been granted multiple opportunities to settle the matter but failed to adhere to earlier commitments.

The case relates to dishonoured cheques issued by Rajpal Yadav and his wife to M/s Murali Projects Pvt Ltd over financial dues. A magistrate court had convicted Yadav in 2018 and sentenced him to six months’ imprisonment, a verdict that was later upheld by a sessions court.

High Court Order

Although the High Court had stayed the conviction in 2024 on the condition that he pursue a settlement, continued failure to comply led to the latest order.

During the hearing, Yadav’s counsel informed the court that the actor had arranged a partial amount and sought additional time to clear the dues. However, the bench rejected the plea, pointing out that several deadlines had already been missed. Following the ruling, Yadav surrendered at Tihar Jail to serve the sentence as directed.
