The official announcement came on Wednesday when Kamal Haasan shared photos with Rajinikanth and a heartfelt handwritten note on social media, revealing details of their much-awaited collaboration.

To everyone’s surprise, the film will not be helmed by Lokesh Kanagaraj or Nelson Dilipkumar, as fans had speculated. Instead, it will be directed by Sundar C, known for his flair for commercial entertainers.

Friendship Beyond Films

Sharing the exciting update, Kamal wrote on X, “Like wind, like rain, like river. Let’s shower, let’s enjoy, let’s live!” He confirmed that Superstar Rajinikanth will star in the movie directed by Sundar C and produced by Raaj Kamal Films International. Titled #Thalaivar173, the film will release in theatres during Pongal 2027 under the banner of Red Giant Movies.

In his note, Kamal reflected on his long-standing friendship with Rajinikanth, calling it a “celebration of five decades of brotherhood and artistry.”
