Ever since its first look dropped, Spirit has remained firmly in the spotlight. Headlined by Prabhas and Triptii Dimri, the film has already positioned itself as one of the most awaited projects on the pan-India slate. The stark, raw poster triggered intense online discussion and now, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga has offered rare insight into what truly went into creating it.

The Question That Opened Up the Conversation
Sandeep Reddy Vanga recently appeared alongside Prabhas, Malavika Mohanan, Nidhhi Agerwal, and Riddhi Kumar in a promotional video for The Raja Saab, released on the People Media Factory YouTube channel.
During the candid exchange, Prabhas couldn’t resist asking about the striking visual that introduced Spirit to the world.
Prabhas asked Sandeep Reddy Vanga, "The idea of the poster is crazy. How did you get that idea?"
Decoding the Visual Misinterpretations
Responding to the overwhelming reaction, Vanga addressed how audiences read between the lines of the poster and sometimes beyond them.
He explained, "That's a 1-litre bottle; it is looking like a glass in his hand. People also thought that another glass was placed on the railing, and both husband and wife are drinking in the poster."
The observation only added to the intrigue surrounding the film’s characters and their complex dynamic.
A Scene Frozen in Time!
Vanga further revealed that the poster wasn’t merely conceptual, it was rooted in the narrative itself.
He elaborated, "That is cut from a scene of the film, and I thought how I should present him after Baahubali. It has to be something, so, yeah. It is my best poster till now. No doubt. It is a cult poster."
The director’s words suggest that Spirit is designed to present Prabhas in a radically different, unapologetic avatar.
How Spirit Was Unveiled to the World
The journey of Spirit began on a celebratory note when Sandeep Reddy Vanga released the film’s audio teaser in five Indian languages on Prabhas’ 46th birthday last year, igniting massive online buzz. The momentum continued into the New Year, when fans were greeted with the first official look of Prabhas and Triptii Dimri as the clock struck midnight.
A Gritty Portrait of the Protagonist
The first-look poster features a shirtless Prabhas standing with his back turned to the camera, his body bearing visible bruises and wounds. Bandages wrapped around his shoulders, back, and hands hint at a violent past. With long hair, a thick beard, and a rugged moustache, Prabhas’ appearance immediately reminded fans of Ranbir Kapoor’s intense look from Vanga’s Animal.

Adding to the charged atmosphere, Triptii Dimri is seen lighting Prabhas’ cigarette as he holds a glass of alcohol an image loaded with tension and symbolism.
