From the most diverse list of nominees in the history of Oscars to some iconic winners on Sunday, the 93rd Academy Awards were historic at various levels. Oscars 2021 ceremony took place at the traditional venue of Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles plus the Union Station. and was the third consecutive year without any host.
Nomadland took home a historic big win at the Academy Awards by winning the Best Picture and its director Chloe Zhao becoming only the second woman in 93 years ever to win an Oscar for Best Director. In a surprising overturn, Anthony Hopkins won the Best Actor Award for his performance in The Father beating late actor Chadwick Boseman in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
Meanwhile, Frances McDormand entered the elite club by bagging her third Best Actress Award. Oscars 2021 also witnessed Yuh-Jung Youn becoming the first Korean performer to win an Academy Award in the acting category for her performance in Minari. Another Round won The Best International Feature Film, India’s official entry Jallikattu couldn’t make it to the shortlist.
