‘One night stand demand’: Actress Sakshi Malik recalls being called to private flat to get films

A disturbing account shared by an aspiring actress has once again brought the issue of the casting couch and exploitation in the film industry into sharp focus. Actress Sakshi Malik recently alleged that instead of being offered legitimate film opportunities, she was given private flat addresses and subjected to inappropriate and degrading demands under the pretext of work.

Compromise Matters Than Talent

According to Sakshi, she entered the industry with dreams of becoming a successful heroine, believing that talent and hard work would pave the way. However, her experience was far from what she had imagined. She alleged that despite showcasing her abilities and proving her talent, she was repeatedly sidelined, while newcomers allegedly received roles in big projects without struggle.

Sakshi also shared how she was subjected to ‘shameful demands’, including requests for a so-called ‘one-night stand’, which she firmly refused. She stated that the harsh reality of the industry today is that compromise is often valued over competence, leaving many talented aspirants disillusioned and emotionally scarred.

In her statement, Sakshi said that the system appears stacked against those who refuse to compromise their dignity, adding that the cost of chasing dreams should never be self-respect. She emphasised that her experience reflects a deeper, systemic problem rather than an isolated incident, affecting many newcomers who lack influence or backing.

While she did not name any individual, director, actor or production house, Sakshi’s allegations have reignited conversations around workplace safety, ethics, and accountability within the entertainment industry.
