Bhubaneswar: A feat which will arguably exalt Odia language and literature on the world stage, Odia movie ‘Swahaa’ has earned special nomination for screening at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival 2019 on May 23.

Nominated for screening in short film category, Swahaa will be the second movie from Odisha to be screened at the annual film festival held in Cannes, France, after the screening of Krantidhara in 2015.

Directed by Sisir Kumar Sahu, the 25-minute movie features noted actor Suresh Mishra and Subhasmita Ratha in lead roles. Suresh Mishra has also contributed to dialogues and screenplay of the movie.

Makers of the film are optimistic that spectators will love the movie because of its unique way of expression and establishing connection with the audience. This apart, people will also get to see several mesmerising yet unexplored places in Odisha through the film.

Director of the movie, Sisir Sahu said that story of the film Swahaa opens up with an interaction between two poets, a 22-23 year-old-girl and a 65-year-old man.

It features how two people with a generation gap and difference in beliefs & ethics try to understand each other through the language of literature.

Speaking about the movie, director Sisir Kumar Sahu said, “I am really proud that the movie has earned a slot for screening at the acclaimed Cannes Film Festival.”

Sources said, the movie will also be screened in Bhubaneswar after screening at Cannes.
