Bollywood actor Akshaye Khanna is currently enjoying renewed adulation, thanks to his powerful performance in Dhurandhar. As his portrayal of Rehman Dakait continues to trend online, several of the actor’s old interviews have resurfaced, bringing with them a surprising revelation about one of Hindi cinema’s most beloved films, Taare Zameen Par.
While the classic is remembered as one of Aamir Khan’s most defining films, few know that the role was initially meant for someone else. Years later, Akshaye Khanna revealed how he nearly became part of the 2007 classic.
Akshaye Khanna’s Unexpected Revelation
In an interview six years ago, Akshaye Khanna revealed that he was originally the first choice for Taare Zameen Par (2007), a film that eventually marked Aamir Khan’s directorial debut. Akshaye clarified that filmmaker Amole Gupte had not approached him directly, as he did not know him personally, but instead reached out to Aamir Khan, a close friend.
According to Akshaye, Aamir insisted on hearing the script before recommending it. “Aamir being Aamir said he can’t recommend a script unless he hears it first,” Akshaye recalled. After listening to the story, Aamir liked it so much that he decided to take on the project himself.
Aamir Khan’s Side of the Story
Six months ago, Aamir Khan echoed a similar version in a conversation with Lallantop. He said Amole Gupte narrated the story to him with the intention of approaching Akshaye. However, Aamir questioned why the film was not being offered to him directly, admitting he had never thought he would be considered for it.
No Regrets, Only Respect
Asked whether he felt he had missed out, Akshaye responded with grace, saying he could not have done a better job than Aamir. He added that destiny played its part, and it worked out for the best.
The story offers a rare glimpse into how fate and friendship shaped a cinematic classic, reminding audiences that some films truly find the actor they are meant for.
